Hark unveils Odeon plans for Telford

Telford shopping centre owner Hark Group will next week put plans to create an entertainment hub in the Shropshire town out to consultation.

Proposals include a 10-screen Odeon cinema, plus 38,000 sq ft of shops and restaurants.

odeonHark had hoped to bring Asda to the town centre, but the supermarket giant decided to buy the council's old headquarters on the edge of the town to convert to a store. Hark challenged the decision to grant planning for the supermarket, but lost.

Director Rob Cossey said: "At a time when town centres are increasingly under threat and retail faces economic uncertainties, Telford is still to realise its full potential."

Ken Taylor, property director for Odeon and UCI cinemas, added: "We are incredibly excited about the opportunity to open a new Odeon cinema in Telford. The Telford shopping centre is well-established as a retail hub for Shropshire and this move will only extend the town's appeal, and provide a greater quality of evening entertainment for local residents."

The plans will be on view between 10 and 13 November.
