Telford Odeon cinema

Area Property Partners has secured planning consent for a leisure extension to Telford Shopping Centre. Area, and its partner Hark, will develop a new 9-screen Odeon multiplex cinema, 38,000 sq ft of restaurant space, and a remodelled entrance to the existing Debenhams store.

Construction will begin this year, with completion targeted for 2014. Telford Shopping Centre was acquired by Area in 2007 in a joint venture with Hark.

Bill Benjamin, European CEO of Area Property Partners, said:  “We welcome the vote of confidence from Telford Council for our proposals and we are very excited about the benefits this will bring to the shopping centre and Telford town centre.”

The developers are already in advanced talks with leading national operators for the eight new restaurants.

Ken Taylor from Odeon added: “Odeon are extremely enthusiastic about the extension in Telford town centre and to have secured an agreement to open our Multiplex Cinema on such a great site.  We believe our investment will play a major part in enhancing Telford as a leisure destination and that it will be well received by the public.”

Odeon, operates 2,120 screens in 225 cinemas across Europe with 119 cinemas and 922 screens in the UK and Ireland. In the last quarter attendance levels have been up by 25% on last year.
