Jewellers F. Hinds returns to Bristol City Centre

After a gap of more than fifty years, jewellers F. Hinds is delighted to return to the centre of Bristol with the opening of its 112th store which is in The Galleries Shopping Centre.

F. Hinds' original Castle Street store had the reputation of being exceedingly lucky as a World War Two bomb narrowly missed it, but unfortunately hitting several neighbouring shops, leaving just three shops standing, as can be seen from this black and white photograph from the early 1950s, featuring Frank Hinds in the foreground. The brass fascia currently displayed in F. Hinds' Uxbridge head office reception is believed to have come from this store.

F. Hinds occupied the site between 1927 and 1963 when the store was compulsorily purchased for redevelopment into what became Castle Park. In 1998 F. Hinds returned to the Bristol area by opening a store at Cribbs Causeway, but its return to the centre of Bristol is more than heartfelt. "There is a feeling of home-coming with the opening of this store", said Frank's son Roy Hinds (82), Chairman and much involved member of this family owned company. "Interestingly, we think we are now located no more than 500m away from the site of our old store".

The new store takes the history of F. Hinds in Bristol firmly into the 21st century. Five large, bright window displays focus on a wide range of jewellery, watches, gifts and services. The Manager Chris Gilligan transferred from the company's Exeter branch, and three new full- and three new part-time staff positions have been created. Assistant Manager Tina Morton transferred from Cribbs Causeway.

The bright layout created by the use of environmentally friendly lighting highlights the extensive range of gold, platinum and silver, diamond and gemstone jewellery, major watch brands and collectibles.

F. Hinds also offers services such as on the spot Gold For Cash with excellent redemption rates; a bespoke jewellery design service; valuations, repairs, watch strap and battery replacements.

Director and diamond buyer Andrew Hinds is Roy's son. He individually hand selects every certificated diamond that is set into F. Hinds' solitaire engagement rings, which are then handmade in the U.K.

"F.Hinds is recognised for its excellent customer service as well as its history and relationship with Bristol customers", Andrew said. "We are pleased that Chris and his team are now set to continue well into the future in their new city centre location. We are also very interested to find any memorabilia out there associated with our old Bristol store; simply bring it in for us to see".

Established in 1856, F. Hinds is Britain's leading independent family jewellers and is delighted to welcome all customers, old as well as new to this smart and very stylish store.
