Store delivers jobs boost after signing lease

The new TJ Hughes store in the Mill Gate Shopping Centre is set to create 50 jobs, according to centre bosses.

The jobs at the store, which is set to open on Wednesday, will be a mixture of full-time and part-time roles.

The Liverpool-based firm has signed a 10-year lease on the 40,000-square foot unit, which was previously the home of Marks and Spencer before it moved on to The Rock.

After the latest jobs announcement, bosses say this now means that more than 100 jobs have been created since new owners and a new asset manager took over at the shopping centre in August last year. In addition, the store occupancy at the centre has increased by 20 per cent.

In the last week, four new tenants have taken over previously empty units, including Perfect Home, which will move into Union Arcade, Savers , which will move to Princess Parade, Peter Rowlands hair salon, which will be based in Minden Square, and Fischer Estate Agents, which is now based in Compton Street.

Marie Gribben, centre manager of the shopping centre, said: "Our new owners and their asset manager have worked tirelessly since they took over Mill Gate last August to revitalise the tenant mix at the centre.

"Not only is Mill Gate a more exciting place to shop but there has been significant job creation for Bury which is great for our local economy."
